A Good Start to the Week

Today, I got to attend my first real college class.

I went to bed last night at 11:30, which isn't too bad, and I naturally woke up at 7:00. My class didn't start till 9:00 but I was scared that I wouldn't wake up if I went back to sleep, so I just started getting ready. At around 7:45 I met up with Kevin and Natalie to get some breakfast and I opted for the french toast, but it was not very satisfying or of good quality. I think I'll stick with oatmeal from now on.

After eating breakfast, the three of us went to the North Balch bus stop to meet up with Sue. We got together at 8:20, which is quite early, but we wanted to make sure that we got there on time. We arrived to the class at around 8:30 and there was only one other guy there. Meanwhile, Natalie and I went to the restroom, since we had time to kill.

At a little past 9:00, that class was a lot fuller and Professor Kramnick walked in. He told us to talk amongst ourselves, since that class didn't officially start until his took his watch off. When the class did start, however, we all had to say (in a chorus): "Good morning Professor Kramnick", which was a bit cute, since it reminded me of little kids in movies.

We didn't have a lecture concerning the actual course material, we only went over what it was about. He gave us the basics of the class, how it differs from high school and requirements to succeed. He is a very insightful man and I can't wait to hear what sort of lectures he has to offer to us.

Following his hour and a half-long lecture, the class was split into two, one half for each TA. Each section was then taken to a different classroom with their TA and this became known as sections, or the discussion part of class. In our section, there are 16 people. The TA, Vijay, told us that this is the perfect size. We began by introducing ourselves and learning about each other.

When sections were over, it was time for lunch. Kevin, Sue, Natalie and I walked to Trillium and purchased our lunches. I wasn't feeling very hungry, so I just bought a quesadilla and coffee. Our lunch is a bit longer than an hour, which is convenient since we have time to walk there and back.

On our way back to class, we got a bit lost, but luckily still managed to make it back on time. The next part of the class was a writing workshop. We only have these on Mondays and Wednesdays, but I hope these will help me, since I struggle with writing on occasion. Today our prompt was "What does freedom mean to you?" I wasn't quite sure how to formulate an argument with this prompt, but I did my best and although it didn't turn out too bad, my essay was definitely one of the shortest, so I plan to improve as time goes on.

Our class ended at 2:45 instead of 2:30 today, but I didn't really mind. Kevin, Sue and Natalie went to the Bookstore and I decided to head back to my dorm to do my reading. Since I had already done most of my reading last night, I was done by 3:30 and I went to the RPCC to watch the Mexico vs. Croatia game. I met a few guys from Mexico, and it was really cool getting to talk to them, since I didn't think I was going to speak Spanish at all during my time here. We all cheered Mexico on together and the team won 3-1.

Watching the game (excuse the feet).

After the game, it was time to meet up with Mr. Chan-Law. We all met in the lobby of the RPCC to talk about our classes and just hang out for a bit. We also talked about my birthday, which is tomorrow. I was told that we're going to do something to celebrate, but no one is willing to tell me what it is, so I guess I'll be surprised.

Since dinner was ending soon, we all decided to head up and grab something to eat. To my surprise, the sushi bar was open today, so I had sushi. It was very delectable and delicious and I wish they would serve it everyday, but we can't always get we want! After dinner, I went to my room to re-read the readings for class tomorrow and now it is almost time for me to go to bed. When I wake up tomorrow, I'll be 17!
